Amish, Days of Olde, & Pies, Oh My!

Customer Service is top priority, the food at the cafe is amazing, and the isles, few though they are, are loaded with essential items that you might not see every day in a city grocery. Shelves are loaded with soup mixes, flours, sugars, rice, chips, coffees, nuts, beans, candies, chocolates and so much more. Most items…

    A Year of Grief

Today marks the one-year anniversary of my mother’s passing. Grief seems to be washing over me in waves, even a year later, I can hear her call my name and still smell her perfume. I know my mother is pain free and after a year of fighting a glioblastoma in her brain, I am thankful she is resting. I have vague memories of my mom dressed to go out partying, or to go to work, and clearer memories of her at home, working in the yard, tending the garden, absorbing as much nature as she could. She hated being inside.…

    Jonquils or Daffodils?

I am from Georgia, and my husband is from Texas. He calls the flowers in the picture daffodils, but I know them as jonquils. A lot of people do not know that there is a difference. Although they are closely related, both belonging to the genus Narcissus, and similar in appearance and growing needs, they are most definitely different. Both daffodils and jonquils grow from bulbs and make beautiful additions to flower beds. The greens of these blooms are among the first to emerge from the ground, offering a reminder of warmer days ahead. These plants are exceptionally hardy and…

    Ugly Crying. It’s a gift.

I use to be afraid of ugly crying. I very much thought it was a weakness and was embarrassed by the thought. The thing is, as you grow and mature you realize that the ability to cry, even ugly cry, is a gift. I was struggling with a lot of untold emotions and feelings until I let myself cry it out. Crying is healing. Tears are the water than cleanse the soul. A way to rid yourself of the negative and make way for new life. Crying releases endorphins into the body. Once all the stress hormones and chemical imbalances in…
